Rocketbook Fusion Smart Reusable Notebook

Product Overview

The Rocketbook Fusion Smart Reusable Notebook is a technology the marries hand written notes to your computer’s memory, so you can transcribe, organize, and keep those crucial thoughts for your projects. The notebook combines a recyclable paper and ink system with  an app on your smart phone or tablet, to put your notes in folders on your device or in your cloud. This technology is great for saving paper, and for sharing your handwritten notes with others working on your projects. So you are saving the planet, but you also are working with the latest technology, while using a medium that everyone knows how to use.

The Rocketbook was recommended to me by an instructor in one of my classes at Wealthy Affiliate.  He told us about how you can write your notes, take pictures and file or share your notes, then erase the page with just a cloth and some water.

I thought it would be a great notebook for the retiree or future retiree, because we need to make a lot of plans and keep our notes on our plans.  Because it’s a fun new items and very tech-minded and ecological, seniors would love this type of tool.

I purchased Rocketbook Fusion Smart Reusable Notebooks for my husband, my two daughters, and their husbands, as Christmas gifts. My oldest daughter is a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy, and she coordinates training plans for nuclear sub crews. Her husband is a nuclear engineer and works as the manufacturer liaison when submarines come in to be refitted. My younger daughter is a commercial interior designer, and she does project management for K-12 schools implementing individually designed learning pods. Her husband is the technology manager for an architectural firm acquiring the latest software and training drafts-men and -women on AutoCad updates and features. My husband is a department manager for a very large grocery chain. I didn’t get one, but I’m going to. I’m an office manager in the summer, and a fashion blogger in the winter.

Rocketbook Features

Rocket Notebook Review - Is It Worth The Money?Reusable paper: When you use the special FriXion pens, on the Rocketbook paper, you can erase your work with a damp Rocketbook cloth. Most Rocketbook purchases can be bundled with a pen and an eraser cloth. You are doing your part to help save the planet, because you are using less paper: Fewer trees cut down, plus less paper in the landfill.

Rocketbook App: A free app is available for Android and iPhone, to upload your hand written notes, and organize them into files. Or you can share your notes via your favorite social media. You can SnapCast with your collaborators anywhere in real time. The picture updates every time you scan it, or you can prop up your phone and set it to auto-scan every 5 seconds. The app also has a handwriting translator, from what I understand.

Beacons: Rocketbook also has what are called Beacons. They are basically sticky right triangles you stick to your white board, or any writing surface. Then you scan the surface, lining up the corners with the corners of your capture screen. Wah Lah! What you have written on your white board is now a shareable file that you can send anywhere, or you can do the live SnapCast thing, and work with your people anywhere, anytime.

Rocket Notebook Review - Is It Worth The Money?FriXion Pens: FriXion pens are basically gel pens with erasable ink. You can get a black ink pen bundled with most of your Rocketbook deals. Or you can purchase pens in packages of all blue or all black, or you can get a variety of colored pens for your Rocketbook.

Rocket Notebook Review - Is It Worth The Money? The Things We Liked

  • My family loves the concept as a whole. All of us scribble away all the time, not just in our professions, but in our life outside of work, and we go through reams and reams of paper. It’s great to not waste so much.
  • My husband really liked using the app. He felt like it was easy and straight forward.
  • I liked that the Rocketbooks came from Amazon, bundled already with a pen and a wiping cloth. So I didn’t have to guess what type of pen to get with it.
  • I like, too, that there are colored pens as well, because I love adding color to my lists and notes. Pens are available in just about every number and size in a package at Amazon.
  • I was glad that the Rocketbook came in a variety of colors. Since I knew I was sending a couple to each household, I wanted to make sure they were personalized.
  • I was happy to see, also, all the accessories available, like the folios and pen holders.
  • In reading the reviews on Amazon, it looks like what my family liked is what other customers were happy about.
  • Some users mentioned that they were skeptical at first, and only used the notebook because they were given it by someone else. But they were “converted” once they tried it. My husband jumped right in using his, but my kids didn’t start using theirs until recently.
  • Other users like the real “pen and paper” feel of the Rocketbook. Having used other note taking methods, like using a stylus on a screen didn’t work out for them. The “pen and paper” feel is what we learned to read and write with, and writing on an LCD touch screen just wasn’t the same.
  • My older Navy daughter is using her Rocketbook as a journal. She can write out pages, download them right away, and erase them. That way she is not carrying a journal full of personal information around. She had been using scrap paper and the backs of receipts that she found, not wanting to use new paper for it. She had ZERO organization, and kept losing the mismatched papers everywhere. Now her Rocketbook will help her be more organized.

The Not So Great

  • Rocket Notebook Review - Is It Worth The Money? My husband noticed that the plastic backing used for the Rocketbook was flimsy. When he tried holding the notebook in his hand, and writing with the other hand, the notebook flopped over. He determined that if he were to use it out in the field without having a surface to put the notebook on, he would carry it on a clipboard. My technology manager son-in-law noticed this as well.
  • My commercial designer daughter mentioned that she is so used to using other technologies, that she didn’t know how she would use her Rocket Notebook. Then she decided to use it in the field to take notes, when opening up the laptop or typing things out on a phone was just too slow, and she would need to make quick notes. This will save her from having to transcribe, and will help her keep track of project changes, and share the changes with her construction crew.
  • Getting used to using the app was difficult for some people.
  • Some had trouble getting the handwriting translator to recognize their scribbles. They said you had to have pretty neat handwriting to begin with for it to work.
  • Several Amazon customers had packaging issues. One had the outer package fused to his notebook, and another had damage to the pages, being turned and folded and all crooked in the book. But it appears that Amazon replaced the books without issue.
  • I wanted to see what the return policy is on the Rocketbook, so I went to the FAQ to see what the policy is. The page I was directed to, was a 404 Not Found error. But in other places, they state that the return policy is 100% money back within 30 days, unopened.

Amazon had a 4.5 out of 5 with 2406 reviews, so there weren’t a lot of complaints, and it seems people love their Rocketbooks!
